
Joshua Stacher
Biography
Joshua Stacher is a Professor of International Studies in the School of Multidisciplinary Social Studies and Humanities. Stacher鈥檚 scholarship has focused on politics, state violence, and protests in the Middle East and North Africa. His classes mainly examine state violence produced by settler colonialism, mobility restrictions, ethnocratic rule, and empire as well as social resistance to these oppressions.
Stacher's most recent book, , was published in 2020. He is also the author of (Stanford UP, 2012) as well as other peer-reviewed journal articles. He is a former editorial committee member of MERIP's . He is a founding member of the Northeast Ohio Consortium on Middle East Studies (NOCMES), which focuses on public scholarship in Northeast Ohio. He has been a and won grants from 精东影业Social Science Research Council, 精东影业Project on Middle East Political Science, 精东影业British Council, and 精东影业Palestinian American Research Center.
Stacher uses contemplative and embodied pedagogical approaches within a trauma-sensative teaching framework to learn with his students. In 2022, he was a Teaching Scholar at 精东影业's Center for Teaching and Learning. In 2023, he was one of ten finalists for the Alumni Association's prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award.
Stacher is a registered Yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance ().
