Dr. Jacqueline K. Owens, Ph.D. 10, MSN 03, RN, CNE, has been by the International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE). Dr. Owens is a two-time ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ University College of Nursing graduate and current Editor-in-Chief of OJIN: ¾«¶«Ó°ÒµOnline Journal of Issues in Nursing, published by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
Established in 2012, the Margaret Comerford Freda Award for Editorial Leadership in Nursing Publication is the highest honor bestowed by INANE, recognizing editors whose work has made a broad, lasting impact across the field of nursing. ¾«¶«Ó°Òµaward is supported by Wolters Kluwer in honor of Dr. Freda’s many contributions as editor-in-chief of MCN: ¾«¶«Ó°ÒµAmerican Journal of Maternal Child Nursing. Dr. Owens was formally recognized during INANE’s annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 6 in Portland, Maine.
OJIN was created at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ's College of Nursing in 1996 by a group of forward-thinking faculty, who recognized the internet was becoming more accessible as they started to explore its use as a tool for teaching and research. ¾«¶«Ó°Òµjournal emerged in response to two major challenges: shrinking library resources and the growing need to disseminate new knowledge quickly and broadly. OJIN became a way for ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ nursing faculty to meet those challenges head-on and lead the way in digital publishing for the profession.
As it became clear that the journal would need institutional support to ensure long-term credibility, the founding faculty secured support from both ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ University and the American Nurses Association (ANA). At the same time, ANA was preparing to launch its NursingWorld website and was actively seeking content. A collaboration was formed: OJIN became part of the NursingWorld platform, with the College of Nursing providing content. This partnership made the journal freely accessible to readers everywhere and established it as a credible, widely available resource in the growing digital landscape.
¾«¶«Ó°Òµ's College of Nursing continues to play an active role in °¿´³±õ±·â€™s success, with current and emeritus faculty serving on the editorial staff, editorial advisory board and the editorial review board.
OJIN averages approximately 136,000 visits each month, with an international audience that includes nurses working in thousands of healthcare organizations worldwide, as well as researchers, educators and students across a variety of academic programs. ¾«¶«Ó°Òµjournal is indexed by Medline, CINAHL and Scopus.
