Before beginning research, testing, or teaching activities that involve the use of live vertebrate animals, the principal investigator must receive the approval of a Request to Use Animals application from ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

¾«¶«Ó°ÒµIACUC has been established to uphold the University’s commitment to assuring humane care and use of animals in research and education. ¾«¶«Ó°ÒµIACUC is responsible for ensuring that research involving the use of animals at the University adheres to:

• United States Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals 
• and the
• Provisions of the 
• University policy
• Other applicable laws and regulations.

¾«¶«Ó°ÒµOffice of Research Compliance provides administrative support for the Animal Care and Use Program at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, which is accredited through the.

Types of Review

Research or teaching projects involving the use of animals are subject to either full-committee or designated member review processes.  ¾«¶«Ó°ÒµIACUC makes the final decision for the level of review that is needed.
