Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 2018, Duncan has been able to turn that love into her career.

English Conversation Partner Program Goes Remote, Expands Opportunities

¾«¶«Ó°ÒµEnglish as a Second Language (ESL) Center at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ recently moved its English Conversation Partner program online. Once an in-person activity only, the program’s transitioning to a remote environment has actually opened up new opportunities, such as involvement from alumni and additional unique groups and students being able to connect with their language partners regardless of their physical location.

Stream Ecologist receives $718,000 NSF CAREER Award to Study Trace Metals in Stream Algae

¾«¶«Ó°Òµâ€™s David Costello is passionate about identifying what trace metals lie within Northeast Ohio’s streams and what the effects of these metals are on the surrounding environment. Costello, an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, received a $718,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to study these important trace metals. ¾«¶«Ó°Òµgrant is awarded as part of the National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program.

10 Questions With Gokarna Sharma ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ the Contact Tracing App

Apple and Google partnered in early April to create a new smartphone app that uses Bluetooth to track coronavirus cases. Using a technology called contact tracing, the app alerts a user when they come in contact with someone who has been positively diagnosed with COVID-19. Gokarna Sharma, assistant professor in Computer Science, recently answered 10 questions about the new app based on his professional opinion. Sharma is experienced in algorithms, blockchain and smart technologies such as this.

¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Professors and Students Team Up With Community Groups to Provide Helping Hands

Two ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ professors partnered with the Summit County Juvenile Court and Hands of Gratitude over the summer to teach juveniles how to assemble prosthetic hands for children in Central America and were featured in the Akron Beacon Journal.
