Apple and Google partnered in early April to create a new smartphone app that uses Bluetooth to track coronavirus cases. Using a technology called contact tracing, the app alerts a user when they come in contact with someone who has been positively diagnosed with COVID-19. Gokarna Sharma, assistant professor in Computer Science, recently answered 10 questions about the new app based on his professional opinion. Sharma is experienced in algorithms, blockchain and smart technologies such as this.

����Ӱҵ’s famous food truck, known for its mouth-watering pulled pork sandwiches and fresh-cut french fries, is now becoming known for giving back to its community. ����Ӱҵuniversity is loaning its campus food truck to Aramark to provide meals to students from Kent, Elyria and Lorain City School Districts who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

����Ӱҵ University President Todd Diacon recently presented six ����Ӱҵ faculty members with the 2020 President’s Faculty Excellence Award, which recognizes exceptional performance that leads to the achievement of national or international recognition in the faculty member’s discipline.

Joseph D. Ortiz, Ph.D., professor and assistant chair in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Geology at ����Ӱҵ University, recently authored a “News and Views” article in Nature Geoscience that discusses research carried out by another research team that reassessed the melt history and timing of the collapse of the Eurasian Ice Sheet Complex during the Last Deglaciation.

����Ӱҵ����Ӱҵ University Board of Trustees approved three important budgetary measures to counter expected revenue reductions due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during a special Board meeting held May 6.

A century ago in 1920, ����ӰҵOhio Flying School and Transport Company officially incorporated and opened Stow Field, now known as ����Ӱҵ University Airport, Andrew Paton Field. April’s observance as Autism Awareness Month is coming to a close, but research into the whys and hows of autism is always ongoing at ����Ӱҵ University.

Michael N. Lehman, Ph.D., director of the Brain Health Research Institute at ����Ӱҵ, said the university supports autism research that focuses on basic discoveries within the brain, as well as applied human research of students with autism, which makes ����Ӱҵ’s body of research unique and diverse.
